Identity Verification & Keeping Your Account Safe
At Barstow Community College, your security matters. Sometimes, we may need to verify your identity before you can register for classes or make changes to your account.
We know this can feel unexpected — but please know this process is simply about protecting you and making sure no one else is using your information.
Why Am I Being Asked to Verify My Identity?
There are times when information on an application or student record needs a little extra confirmation. This helps us:
- Protect you from identity theft
- Prevent fraud
- Keep financial aid secure
- Make sure no one else can access your student account
Being asked to verify does not mean you did something wrong. It simply means we need to confirm your identity before moving forward.
What Does This Mean for My Account?
If verification is required:
- A temporary hold may be placed on your account
- You won’t be able to add or drop classes until verification is complete
Once you complete the process and we confirm your identity, the hold will be removed.
How Do I Complete Verification?
Option 1: Visit Us In Person
If you are local, bring a valid government-issued photo ID to the Admissions & Records Office. We’ll take care of the rest.
Option 2: Complete Online Verification
If you can’t come in person, use our secure online form:
Start Here: Identity Verification Form
You’ll need to upload:
- A valid government-issued photo ID
- Proof of address (such as a utility bill, bank statement, rental agreement, vehicle registration, etc.)
After we review your documents, you may receive a link to schedule a short Zoom meeting. During the meeting, you’ll need to be on camera and show your original photo ID.
How Long Does It Take?
Most verifications are reviewed within 1–3 business days. During busy registration periods, it may take slightly longer — but we work as quickly as possible.
Your Safety Matters
Unfortunately, colleges across the country have seen an increase in identity theft and enrollment fraud. That’s why we take this process seriously.
To protect yourself:
- Never share your password with anyone
- Be cautious of emails or texts asking for payment to 'release' classes or financial aid
- BCC will never ask for gift cards, cryptocurrency, or payment apps
- If something feels suspicious, contact us directly using official contact information
