Adding/Dropping Classes

Before You Add or Drop a Class

Before making changes to your schedule, consider how it may affect:

  • Your financial aid eligibility
  • Your enrollment status (full-time or part-time)
  • Degree or certificate progress
  • Athletic eligibility (if applicable)
  • Veterans benefits (if applicable)
  • International student status (if applicable)

If you're unsure whether dropping a class is the right decision, we encourage you to speak with a counselor before making changes.

Registration Deadlines

Students may add or drop classes only during the published registration periods. Be sure to review the Academic Calendar and Class Schedule for important dates, including the last day to add a class, the last day to drop a class without a "W," withdrawal deadlines, census dates, and semester end dates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add a class after the semester begins?

Classes may be added only during the published add period. After the add deadline, instructor approval and additional college procedures may be required if late adds are permitted.

What happens if I drop a class?

Dropping a class may affect your enrollment status, financial aid, veterans benefits, athletic eligibility, or academic progress. Review the appropriate deadlines and consult with a counselor if you have questions before dropping a class.

Will I receive a refund if I drop a class?

Refund eligibility depends on when you drop a class. Review the Fees & Refunds page for important refund deadlines.

What is the difference between dropping and withdrawing from a class?

Students who drop a class before the published deadline may avoid receiving a "W" notation on their transcript. Classes dropped after the drop deadline but before the withdrawal deadline generally receive a "W" grade.
