CVC Exchange

California Virtual Campus (CVC) Exchange

Take Online Courses at Colleges Across California

The California Virtual Campus (CVC) Exchange allows eligible California Community College students to enroll in online courses offered by participating colleges without completing a separate admission application.

Barstow Community College (BCC) participates as both a Home College and a Teaching College.

  • Home College: BCC students can take online courses at other participating colleges to fulfill degree, certificate, or transfer requirements.
  • Teaching College: Students attending other California Community Colleges can enroll in eligible online courses offered by BCC.

Important: Payment Deadline for CVC Courses at BCC

Students enrolled in CVC Exchange courses taught by Barstow Community College must pay all required fees or have an approved fee waiver or other applicable payment arrangement reflected on their BCC student account by 12:00 p.m. (noon) on the Wednesday before the class begins.

Students with unpaid fees who have not satisfied the payment requirement will be dropped from their BCC course for nonpayment.

This deadline applies to each course based on its individual start date, including courses that begin later in the semester.

Please note:

  • Selecting the financial aid payment option through the CVC Exchange does not automatically guarantee that your fees are paid or that your enrollment is protected.
  • Students planning to use financial aid from their Home College should contact that college's Financial Aid Office well before the payment deadline.
  • Students applying for the California College Promise Grant (CCPG) should allow sufficient time for their eligibility to be processed and reflected on their BCC account.
  • If you are dropped for nonpayment, your seat is not guaranteed to remain available.

We strongly encourage students to complete payment arrangements immediately after enrollment rather than waiting until the deadline.

I Am a BCC Student Taking a Course at Another College

As a BCC student, you may use the CVC Exchange to find online courses that are not available at BCC or are currently full.

Eligibility

To participate through BCC as your Home College, you must generally:

  • Be enrolled in at least one BCC credit course.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher, or not yet have an established college GPA.
  • Have no outstanding fees at BCC.
  • Have an eligible California address on file.

Additional eligibility requirements may apply.

Financial Aid

If you receive financial aid at BCC, you may be eligible to have qualifying courses taken through the CVC Exchange included in your financial aid enrollment calculation.

BCC, as your Home College, is responsible for determining your financial aid eligibility and disbursing eligible financial aid.

Federal financial aid consortium participation generally requires enrollment in at least six units at your Home College. Additional eligibility requirements apply, including whether the course counts toward your eligible program of study.

Before enrolling, confirm with BCC Financial Aid whether the course is eligible to be included in your financial aid award.

Payment and nonpayment drop deadlines are established by the college offering the course. Be sure to review that college's requirements.

I Am Taking a BCC Course Through the CVC Exchange

Welcome to Barstow Community College! If you are enrolled at another California Community College and have registered for a course offered by BCC, please review the following information carefully.

Step 1: Pay Your Fees or Complete Financial Aid Requirements

After enrolling through the CVC Exchange, review the payment options available in your CVC account.

Pay by noon on the Wednesday before your BCC course begins to avoid being dropped for nonpayment.

Credit or Debit Card

You may pay applicable fees using the payment option available through the CVC Exchange.

California College Promise Grant (CCPG)

If you qualify for the CCPG, you may be eligible to have your BCC enrollment fees waived.

To request the CCPG for your BCC course:

  1. Select the CCPG option through the CVC Exchange payment process.
  2. Complete any required application or eligibility steps.
  3. If using FAFSA-based eligibility, add BCC's federal school code: 001119.
  4. Verify that your waiver has been processed before the payment deadline.

A CCPG awarded at your Home College does not automatically mean the waiver has been applied to your BCC account.

Federal Financial Aid

Federal financial aid is administered by your Home College, not BCC.

If you intend to use financial aid to cover your BCC course, contact your Home College Financial Aid Office to confirm eligibility and payment arrangements.

Choosing "I intend to use Financial Aid" does not mean your BCC fees have been paid. You remain responsible for meeting BCC's payment deadline.

Step 2: Review Important Dates

Each BCC course has its own start date, payment deadline, drop deadlines, and refund deadlines.

Students should review the BCC Academic Calendar and the published deadlines for their specific course.

Step 3: Access Your Online Course

You will access your BCC course through your Home College's Canvas account. Once your enrollment is processed and course access is available, your BCC course should appear on your Canvas dashboard.

Be sure to review the course syllabus and actively participate beginning on the first day of instruction.

Students who do not meet course participation requirements may be dropped for nonattendance.

Step 4: Access Student Resources

CVC Exchange students taking courses at BCC may access available student services and academic resources, including:

  • Canvas student support
  • Online academic assistance
  • BCC Library resources
  • Distance education support
  • Disability accommodations through ACCESS

Some services may be available through MYBCC.

Dropping a CVC Exchange Course

If you need to drop a course, sign in to your CVC Exchange account.

  1. Open your CVC Profile Dashboard.
  2. Locate the course you want to drop.
  3. Select Drop Class.
  4. Review the applicable deadlines and confirm the drop.
  5. Verify that the course appears in your dropped courses.

Students are responsible for officially dropping courses they no longer intend to attend.

Refunds

Refund eligibility is determined by the college offering the course.

For courses taught by BCC:

  • Students who drop by the published refund deadline are eligible for a refund of applicable enrollment fees and nonresident tuition.
  • Eligible refunds are processed automatically.
  • Refund deadlines vary by course and may occur very early in the instructional period.
  • Refund processing typically takes four to six weeks.

Review BCC Fees and Refund Policies

If you are a BCC student taking a course at another college, review the refund policy of that Teaching College.

Disability Accommodations

Disability accommodations do not automatically transfer between colleges participating in the CVC Exchange.

If you are taking a course at BCC and need accommodations, please contact our ACCESS Office to begin the accommodation process.
