Honoring Our Founder
Anissa Mitchell
Founder of Shades of Sisters
Shades of Sisters was founded by Anissa Mitchell, a biracial, first-generation college graduate, BCC alumna, campus leader, and passionate advocate for women of color.
From student worker to campus leader, Anissa dedicated herself to creating spaces rooted in community, healing, empowerment, and belonging. Her vision continues through every student supported, every relationship built, and every sister encouraged to recognize her own strength.
Shades of Sisters proudly carries Anissa’s legacy forward by ensuring that women of color at BCC are seen, celebrated, and supported.

Persephone “Percy” Belle
Interim Student Success and Equity Coordinator | BSU Advisor
Percy is an equity advocate who is passionate about helping students thrive academically, personally, and authentically. She helps coordinate Shades of Sisters programming and connects students with individualized support, campus resources, and opportunities to become involved.

Antoinette “Annie” Andriese
Research Analyst
Annie is a data-minded equity advocate with a background in sociology and a passion for mentorship. She uses research to help drive meaningful change while creating welcoming spaces where students feel encouraged, connected, and capable of reaching their goals.

Melodia “Mia” Torres
Student Success Advisor – Promise Program
Mia is a proud Latina, first-generation college graduate, generational cycle breaker, and fierce believer in women’s power to rewrite their own stories. Through mentorship and community, she helps students recognize that success is not out of reach—it already lives within them.
