MESA

The Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) Program provides academic and transfer support to advance the educational success of students majoring in a calculus-based STEM field, especially those from underrepresented and disproportionately impacted backgrounds. Our goal is to increase the number of community college students who successfully transfer to a 4-year institution to complete a STEM degree with the educational and technical skills to become a leader in the STEM workforce.

Student Eligibility

The mission of the MESA program is to provide support to underrepresented and underserved STEM transfer students whose primary college is Barstow Community College. As a minimum, students will be asked to meet these criteria to become a member of the MESA program:

  • Intend to transfer to a 4-year institution as a Calculus-based STEM major

  • Be educationally underserved

  • Have demonstrated financial need

IMPORTANT NOTE!

Students are encouraged to apply even if they do not think they qualify. For some applicants, a few simple changes can be made to meet eligibility requirements, such as meeting with the MESA Counselor to appropriately update their education plan. All applicants will have the opportunity to meet with the MESA Director to discuss their application and share potentially qualifying information. If a student is found to be ineligible due to insufficient educational or financial indicators, they may qualify to be on a waitlist.
