Superintendent/president, Dr. Deborah Dithomas, Bids a Fond Farewell to BCC

DiThomas waving

Barstow, CA – On June 29th, Dr. DiThomas said her goodbyes to the students and personnel at Barstow Community College. It was a quiet departure for the Superintended/President of our college district, privately meeting with friends and colleagues from the college and community throughout the day. She completed her four–year term as the Superintendent/President this month as anticipated, following her announcement that she would not seek a new contract at the October, 2016 Board meeting.

Board President, Phil Harris, commented on her departure, “We will miss her leadership and devotion to the college and its students. She has been a great ‘finisher’ of buildings and projects that will serve the students for many years to come.” The Board of Trustees passed a resolution at the most recent Board meeting on June 21, 2017 in recognition of her dedicated service to the district. A copy of Resolution No. 06/2016-2017 is included with this Press Release.

Barstow Mayor, Julie Hackbarth-McIntyre, was the Commencement Speaker during the 2017 graduation ceremony at the college. During her speech, the Mayor presented Dr. DiThomas with a City Proclamation Honoring Dr. DiThomas for her service to the college and the community. A copy of the city’s proclamation and a photo of that presentation is also included with this Press Release.

The Barstow Community College District’s Board of Trustees announced in May that Dr. Eva Bagg will be the new Superintendent/President starting in July, 2017. For more information about BCC and this change in the college’s leadership, please visit: www.barstow.edu
