See Jupiter and the 4 Galilean Moons

Barstow, CA – Barstow Community College (BCC) will be hosting a telescope viewing of Jupiter and its four Galilean Moons on Thursday, April 28th, starting at 8:00 p.m. The BCC Science Club will be on hand to help answer questions and do some fund raising with ASG volunteers offering treats to people waiting in line.

BCC’s Astronomy Professor Scott Bulkley observed, “This is an event that we always look forward to, because we can interact with our neighbors in the community.” Professor Bulkley continued, “Barstow has always been interested in our local observatory.” The observatory houses a 16" Schmidt-Cassegrain Reflector Telescope on a permanent Equatorial mount. The magnification used varies between 100x and 1000x depending on the object observed and the viewing conditions.

The College Observatory is located on Veterans Parkway behind the College campus. Parking is available on Veterans Parkway. The public is invited free of charge to see the solar system's largest planet and its four largest moons - Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto. Weather permitting; all participants will look through the telescope to see this astronomical sight.

People are urged to dress warmly since this is an outdoor event that will run from 8:00 p.m. until about 9:30 p.m. For additional information, contact Professor Bulkley at 760-252-2411, ext. 7301
