New Superintendent/president and Two New Administrators Introduced at Barstow Community College

Dr. Eva Bagg speech

Barstow, CA – The Barstow Community College District’s Board of Trustees met on Wednesday evening and appointed Dr. Eva Bagg as the new Superintendent/President, to replace Dr. Deborah DiThomas when she finishes her four years of service in June of this year. That announcement was followed by the news that Dr. Sherrie Guerrero will be serving in the vacancy left by Stephen Eaton, as the Interim Vice President of Academic Affairs. Mr. Eaton has accepted a new job at a community college district in Arizona, and is scheduled to leave on May 25th. Another new administrator at BCC started last month. Dr. Brenda Findley is now serving as the V.P. of Administrative Services, after George Walters’ resignation earlier this year.

These new members of the Barstow Community College (BCC) leadership team come with a wealth of knowledge and experience in higher education. Both Dr. Bagg, and Dr. Guerrero, have worked for California Community Colleges for many years, and Dr. Findley has extensive experience in business and at universities.

Dr. Bagg began her career in the California Community College system over 30 years ago as a research intern and adjunct instructor at Southwestern College in Chula Vista. She then joined BCC as the director of institutional research and later as full-time instructor of anthropology. For the past 10 years, she has served as Dean of Institutional Effectiveness and Student Success at Long Beach City College. She was the accreditation liaison officer for eleven years at two institutions and has served on four accreditation evaluation teams. Eva holds a bachelor’s degree in anthropology from Pomona College and became a Fulbright scholar while earning her doctorate in anthropology from the University of California, San Diego. Prior to her work in community colleges, Eva worked as research scientist at the Institute for Research on Learning in Palo Alto, California and later as a workplace anthropologist at Pitney Bowes in Connecticut.

Dr. Guerrero worked for Chaffey College for 11 years as a Dean, Vice President, and most recently as the Associate Superintendent of Instruction and Institutional Effectiveness. Before Chaffey, she was at San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC) where she served for more than 8 years, first as a tenured Speech Professor, then as the Department Chair, and finally as the Dean of Humanities. Sherrie started her education with an Associate of Arts degree from SBVC, followed by a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies at CSU San Bernardino. Her Master of Arts in Speech Communications was earned at CSU Fullerton. In 2001 she earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership, with a Certificate in Community College Leadership, at USC.

Dr. Findley began her career in higher education after working in various corporate and manufacturing positions. She has 22 years of experience as an administrator in higher education, including assignments in Student Services and Administration & Finance. During the last 14 years, she served as Associate V.P. of Finance & Administrative Services at the University of North Georgia, and as V.P. of Business Affairs at Western New Mexico University. Brenda has a Bachelor degree in Psychology, with honors from Christopher Newport University, and a Master’s Degree in Business with a concentration in Human Resources from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. She was the College of Education’s Honor Graduate when she received her Doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of Houston five years later.
