New Student Workshops this Summer at Barstow Community College

New Student Workshops this Summer at Barstow Community College 2018

Barstow, CA – The Superintendent-President of Barstow Community College (BCC), Dr. Eva Bagg, is extending an invitation to everyone interested in BCC’s Degrees, and Certificate programs to come and visit the BCC Campus, located at 2700 Barstow Road in Barstow, CA. “Sign up for our New Student Workshops, and come visit our Student Services Center in the middle of our campus where prospective students and adult learners can explore all of the different programs we offer.”

At BCC you can complete the entire registration process and be signed up for Fall Semester Classes in one day. The New Student Workshops offer help with the college application process. Prospective students will attend an orientation meeting, receive Math and English placement, meet with an advisor to plan a fall schedule of classes, and register for the Fall Semester. BCC’s New Student Workshops are taking place Monday through Thursday with sessions starting at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. & 2 p.m. each day. The Fall Semester classes begin on August 13, 2018. Registration for Fall classes is now open for new students who complete the enrollment process during the summer (before Aug. 13, 2018). To RSVP for the workshops call 760.252.2411 ext. 6518, or email: Lsmith@barstow.edu

BCC offers Career and Technical Education (CTE) that can lead to better employment in positions that require skills and training beyond high school. Certificates and Degrees are offered that can lead to jobs in Accounting, Law Enforcement, Auto and Diesel Repair, Small Business Management, Computer Information Systems, Child-care and Pre-school Services, Cosmetology, Industrial Maintenance of Mechanical and Electrical Systems, Photography, Warehousing, Logistics, and Welding.

For students who are planning to attend 4-year colleges and universities, BCC offers Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADT) to a California State University (CSU), and degree pathways to the University of California system, as well as private institutions and out of state colleges or universities. The first two years in one of BCC’s nine different ADT programs cost far less than the tuition charged at traditional 4-year schools, and students who earn a degree at BCC can transfer to the CSU system as a junior in their related Bachelor of Arts or Science programs.

BCC has a Transfer & Career Center that provides students with transfer assistance and admissions information for public and private 4-year colleges and universities. Representatives from many different colleges and universities set up information booths throughout the year on the BCC campus.

At Fort Irwin, BCC has a facility that trains and educates active-duty military personnel and their families. Most qualify for programs that will pay for all of the college fees and costs associated with going to school. Military students can apply for college credit for military training and instruction with their Joint Services Transcripts (JST). This college is a national testing center that also administers CLEP, DANTES and Pearson VUE exams (every other Tuesday). Veterans, active-duty military personnel, and their eligible dependents can use the Forever GI Bill to help pay for up to four years of college instruction.

The Barstow Community College District’s Board of Trustees President, Dr. Ted Baca, observed at a recent Board meeting “We are dedicated to providing excellent higher education and career training opportunities to the residents of Barstow, the military and their dependents, and people from around the globe through our online courses and programs.”

More information about all of the certificate and degree programs offered at Barstow Community College is available online at www.barstow.edu. The New Student Workshops are open to anyone interested in pursuing an education at BCC. There is no charge for these workshops.
