Jupiter, up close and personal with the Galilean Moons

Barstow, CA – Barstow Community College will be hosting a telescope viewing of Jupiter and its four Galilean Moons on Thursday, April 16th starting at 8:00 p.m.

The viewing will be conducted through our main Observatory telescope which is a 16" LX 200 ACF f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain Reflector on a permanent Equatorial mount. The magnification used varies between 100x and 1000x depending on the object observed and the viewing conditions.

The College's Astronomical Observatory is located on Veterans Parkway behind the College campus. The public is invited free of charge to see the solar system's largest planet and it four largest moons - Europa, Ganymede , lo, and Callisto. Weather permitting all participants will look through the telescope to see this extraordinary sight. This is a great opportunity to mingle with professional and amateur astronomers under a clear night sky. People are urged to dress warmly since this is mostly an outdoor event which will run from 8:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served by the Barstow Community College's Science Club.
