Civic Engagement

Civic engagement involves "working to make a difference in the civic life of one's community and developing the combination of knowledge, skills, values, and motivation to make that difference. It means promoting the quality of life in a community, through both political and non-political processes." Civic engagement includes both paid and unpaid forms of political activism, environmentalism, and community and national service.

The impact of civic engagement can be seen in a few of its more notable success stories. These include The Cajun Navy, Habitat for Humanity and the March on Washington.

How do I get involved?

Barstow Community College has a mission to "enable all in the community to thrive in a changing global society." We encourage students and employees to have a positive impact on the college, the local community as well as globally. With state support and encouragement, BCC provides resources and opportunities for voting and census engagement.

Ballot Bowl Competition 2022

The Ballot Bowl is a friendly competition where all California higher education systems can compete to register the most students to vote. The competition includes all Community Colleges in California as well as the UCs and the CSUs. A California Community College has never won the competition so why not put BCC on the map? Use this link Online Voter Registration | California Secretary of State to register (or check your registration status). On page 3, there will be a section that asks what college or university you attend. Students will need to select California Community College and then the correct college - Barstow Community College (BCC). If you are already a registered voter, but still use the link to check your registration status, BCC will still get credit!

Check our status! Let's see how quickly we can get BCC to the top of the leader board
