Welcome to Barstow Community College (BCC) where we are committed to helping you achieve your education and career goals. Whether you are taking transfer classes to move on to a four-year college or university, enrolling in one of our many career and technical education programs to prepare for a satisfying career, seeking to enhance your critical thinking skills, or pursuing personal enrichment, BCC can meet your needs.

We recognize that students have varying learning styles and preferences, deal with busy life and work schedules, and sometimes just need a little flexibility to succeed. To meet these needs, we offer flexible course scheduling, staggered course start dates, and both full semester and short-term classes. BCC students can choose to enroll in online classes, traditional “live” classes, or hybrid online/live classes. Each option offers a high-quality learning experience.

BCC has recently created a new Student Success Center to promote basic skills instruction and expand non-credit and community education programs. The college’s Career and Technical Education department is also growing. Our training programs are set to meet local employment needs. We provide viable career options for students in high demand fields that align with our local workforce development needs and opportunities.

For active duty military, their dependents and contract civilians desiring targeted training, certification, or an Associate’s degree, BCC offers classes at the National Training Center Ft. Irwin. Located on base in Building 285, our counselors and staff will be happy to assist you in finding the classes and training that fit the rigors of life on a military installation.

If you are a new student or are already taking classes but still have unanswered questions, I encourage you to visit and talk with our professional staff located in the Norman Smith Center of Student Services. They will be glad to help you identify your educational goals, assess your needs, and make recommendations that will help you succeed. Student Services staff also can advise you of the many state and federal programs that provide tuition waivers, financial aid, textbook purchase assistance, and child care. While attendance at a California community college is the best educational value in the country, we know every dollar you can save is important. So, we are ready to help you find the resources you need to attend our college.

After you enroll in classes, I also encourage you to explore the many opportunities to become active participants in college life. In doing so, you will get to know other interesting and dedicated students and enhance your overall college experience. Student government, student clubs and organizations, and athletics are just some of the ways you can get involved on campus.

If you haven’t been on campus for a while, you’ll notice two new buildings on our campus that have significantly improved our capacity to showcase our Performing Arts programs, and improve our athletic training and health programs. The new, state-of-the-art Performing Arts Center, has established BCC as the region’s cultural center; and the spectacular, new Health and Wellness Center, is providing more space for courses and activities that will strengthen the overall health and well-being of our students and community.

I hope you agree that Barstow Community College is dynamic and exciting place to pursue your education. As president, I welcome you home, to YOUR community college, and wish you every success.
