Barstow Community College has a strong commitment to athletics with an excellent coaching staff and first class athletic facilities. We offer six competitive intercollegiate sports program: Men's and Women's Basketball, Men's and Women's Cross Country, Baseball and Softball and plan to add new programs in the future. Barstow Community College places great emphasis on academic classroom performance as well as athletics. We believe that as a student-athlete, you have the opportunity of working toward an educational or vocational goal, as well as your athletic goals. The coaches at BCC are committed to preparing you academically and athletically for scholarships and transfer opportunities to four- year colleges or universities. Barstow Community College also offers a "Good Neighbor Policy" for Nevada students which gives BCC students from Nevada a significantly reduced out-of-state tuition rate. BCC Intercollegiate AthleticsSPORTS The intercollegiate athletic program at Barstow Community College consists of men's and women's varsity sport teams including Baseball, Basketball, Softball and Cross Country. GOALSIt is the goal of the Barstow Community College Intercollegiate Athletics Program to represent the best interests of the Barstow Community College educational mission and the communities of greater Barstow, by providing competitive opportunities for both male and female students in a wide variety of sporting endeavors. GOVERNING AUTHORITIESBarstow Community College is a good standing member of the Community College League of California's Commission on Athletics (COA). As authorized by the state legislature, the Education Code provides the COA with the authority to establish the rules and regulations to administrate the intercollegiate athletic activities of the California Community Colleges. The California Community College system, which is composed of 72 districts and 108 campus sites, annually enrolls nearly 2.9 million students and employs over 70,000 citizens of the state. Nearly 25,000 student athletes participate annually in intercollegiate athletics at California's Community Colleges. The COA oversees nearly 100 regional and state-final events that produce champions in 20 men's and women's sports each year. Barstow Community College is also an affiliated member of the Foothill Conference, which provides league competition for the program. Along with the Vikings, the Foothill Conference includes Antelope Valley College (Lancaster), Chaffey College (Rancho Cucamonga), College of the Desert (Palm Desert), Mt. San Jacinto College (San Jacinto), Rio Hondo College (Whittier), San Bernardino Valley College, and Victor Valley College(Victorville). A majority of student athletes that participate in California Community College programs transfer to a four-year college or university to continue their academic and athletic careers. These students are required to meet the eligibility standards of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and or the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). SEASONS OF SPORTThe Barstow Community College Intercollegiate Athletic Program recognizes two distinctive seasons of sport, which coincide with the semesters of the academic year. The fall sports include men's and women's basketball. The spring sports include baseball and softball. Barstow Community College has been a strong influence among California Community Colleges for over three decades. It has always maintained an exceptional faculty and student system that emphasizes success of the educational and vocational goals of our students. Along with the College's commitment to athletic excellence, the College is committed to academic success. The focus on a strong academic program is highlighted by the following: a mandatory study table program where all student-athletes must participate, an orientation class that is designed for student-athlete success, the athletes club, the B-SAAC (Barstow-Student Athlete Advisory Council), a student-athlete code-of-conduct, and an academic advisor. Athletics at Barstow Community College is an important part of the educational process. The athletic department is committed to providing a variety of inter-collegiate sports that will provide inter-conference, invitational, sectional and/or state competition. Barstow Community College Viking teams have been fortunate to be State and Division Champions in years past and are committed to achieving continuous excellence.
