BARSTOW- The Barstow Community College Performing Arts Department will perform the Tony-Award-winning play, “The Last Night of Ballyhoo” the weekends of Oct. 15 and 22 in the college’s Norman Smith Center.
Set in 1939, “The Last Night of Ballyhoo” focuses on a Jewish family exploring their faith while living in a primarily Christian neighborhood in Atlanta.
“This play takes a light and enjoyable look at human nature and the pressures of being different from your neighbors,” says Amy Ross, Barstow Community College theatre arts instructor. “It’s a funny, sweet story with a nice balance of comedy, romance, and drama.”
According to Ross, the college is staging the play in an intimate, “black-box” setting, which means the audience will sit on stage with the actors.
“The staging will create a wonderful sense of intimacy and help the audience feel more connected to the play,” says Ross. “It’s also a great learning experience for our actors and stage crew.”
Performances are scheduled for Oct. 15, 16, 22, and 23 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 17 at 2 p.m. Ticket prices are $7 for general admission and $5 for local students.
Due to limited stage seating, only 45 tickets will be
sold per performance. Those interested in attending the play are recommended
to make reservations by calling Amy Ross at (760) 252-2411, ext. 7243.
Because of the play’s intimate staging, “The Last Night of Ballyhoo” is not
appropriate for children under age 10.
