Student Outreach Program Assists with Fall Enrollment

BARSTOW, Calif.  – (June 27, 2006)  The Student Outreach Program at Barstow Community College is currently underway and serves to assist recent high school graduates and other students who need assistance with college registration for fall.  Now in its sixth year, the college trains students, also known as peer counselors, in basic registration and financial aid processes.  Additionally, each peer counselor performs a follow-up with each registrant.

“This program has been successful because we have peers talking to peers about the college process,” states Lefty Olguin, Assistant Dean of Student Services.

Peer counselors of the Student Outreach Program are located on the Barstow Community College main campus, 2700 Barstow Road, room B-4 of the B building.  Hours are Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Closed Fridays.  For more information, please call 252-2411, ext. 7374.
