Each year hundreds of students participate, some more than once, as they can enter up to nine times with three entries per category. They are competing for Grand Prizes and first to fifth place for each writing category at four grade levels: fifth-sixth, seventh-eighth, high school and college, which includes Barstow Community College and four-year institutions in the BCC District. Certificates are awarded to all who place.

Packets of letters to principals and teachers, and entry forms for students were hand-delivered to two dozen schools in the Barstow Community College District by contest organizers.

BARSTOW COMMUNITY COLLEGE TO HOST AUDITIONS FOR “CINDERELLA

POSTED: January 9, 2006

BARSTOW – The Barstow Community College Performing Arts Department will host auditions for its spring production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musical, “Cinderella” on Jan. 17 and 18 at 6 p.m. in the college’s Norman Smith Center. Men and women and children age seven and older are encouraged to audition.

Please prepare a song, preferably from musical theatre, and bring the sheet music with you. An accompanist will be provided. If you prefer to use music from disc, a CD player will be available. The director asks that there be no a capella performances. There will also be a short dance audition, so dress appropriately and be prepared to move.

Those chosen for the cast of “Cinderella” will be asked to register for the drama production class at the college.

If you’d like to help with behind-the-scenes tasks like set design, lights, and costumes, register for the drama production class, and report to the first rehearsal on Jan. 30 at 6 p.m.

The production will be directed by theatre arts instructor, Amy Ross. For more information, call Ross at (760) 252-2411, ext. 7243.
