BARSTOW - At its Jan. 20 meeting, the Barstow Community College Board of Trustees voted unanimously to hire Clifford Brock, Ed.D. as the college's next president. Brock, who has been the president of Bainbridge College in Bainbridge, Ga. for five years, will assume the presidency of Barstow Community College in March.

"My wife, Mid and I are excited about coming to Barstow Community College and Barstow," said Brock. "We feel the college and this area are poised for tremendous and exciting growth, and we are happy to be part of that."

Brock brings with him 20 years of teaching experience and more than 13 years in college administration having held positions at community colleges in Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Oregon, Arizona, and California.

"Dr. Brock is the best choice for Barstow Community College," said Marcia Zableckis, president of the college's Board of Trustees. "He's a dynamic leader with a proven track record of enrollment growth and campus improvement, which are primary objectives of this Board."

Active in community service and economic development, Brock serves as a director in the Bainbridge, Ga. Chamber of Commerce and the Regional Economic Development Partnership. He also serves on the Advisory Committee of the Bainbridge Decatur Community Development Authority, and he’s active in Rotary International.

He is excited to bring this experience to service for Barstow. "The Barstow community appears to recognize the importance of their college," said Brock. "I want to continue to build on that trust and support."

Brock cited Barstow's strong sense of community and family as one reason he and his wife became interested in the college. "Barstow has a small-town feeling and that's important to Mid and me," he said.

He earned his doctorate of education from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah; his master's degree in journalism from the University of Oregon in Eugene; and a bachelor's degree from California State College in Fullerton.

Brock will assume the presidency from Curt Mitchell who has been serving as interim president since James Meznek’s departure in August 2004. Mitchell will resume his duties as vice president for administrative services when Brock arrives in March.
