Barstow – The Barstow Community College gym will be the location for the USA Ballet performance of “Giselle.” This exclusive High Desert performance will kick-off the USA Ballet company’s spring, 2007 tour. Barstow was selected for its accessibility to all High Desert communities. The performance will take place on Sunday, Feb. 18 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students, seniors, and children 12 and under. Barstow, Calif. - Barstow Community College is seeking entries for the 22nd Annual Desert Heritage Writing Contest. Barstow area students (fifth grade through college which includes home-schooled students) are encouraged to enter this annual competition created and organized by BCC instructors to improve the communication skills of area students.
Original work is being sought in three categories - non-fiction, fiction, and poetry. Submission deadline is 5 p.m. Feb. 21. Entries may be submitted by accessing BCC’s main website (www.barstow.edu) and selecting the “Desert Heritage” link. From this link, submissions can be made online. Entry forms are also available for pick-up in the Instruction Office and the President’s Office on the campus. Hard copy entries must be made to the college president’s office by the deadline date.
Each year the Desert Heritage Writing Contest receives over 700 entries from the Barstow area, of which 10 percent receive awards that include cash, gifts and gift certificates.
Winners will be notified by mail and invited to an awards ceremony planned for April 28 at 2 p.m. in the college’s Interim Performing Arts Center. The awards ceremony is open to the public.
