BARSTOW COMMUNITY COLLEGE RECRUITING FOR NEW WOMEN’S SOFTBALL TEAM

POSTED: April 1, 2005

BARSTOW – Barstow Community College is seeking players and a coach for its new intercollegiate women’s softball team. Part of the Foothill Athletic Conference, the team will play its first season in Spring ‘06.

“We believe that softball is a sport we can not only be competitive in, but it offers great opportunities for participation,” says Lefty Olguin, executive director of student success. “We have some great softball players in Barstow and the surrounding areas.”

Olguin will be hitting the recruiting trail to get the new program off the ground. His goal is to recruit 16 to 18 players and a new coach.

As part of his recruiting effort, Olguin will be attending high school and adult club games. He’s quick to point out that age is not an obstacle. “It doesn’t matter if you are 17 years old and graduating from high school or 40 years old and wanting to fulfill a lifelong dream,” he says. “If you want to play softball and study hard, we’re the team for you.”

“Many student athletes are drawn to college because of the opportunity to play the sport they love,” said Olguin. “We make sure that our athletes have a fun college experience with academics front and center.”

Women interested in joining the Barstow Community College softball team and prospective coaches are asked to contact Lefty Olguin at (760) 252-2411, ext. 7347.
