Music Appreciation – Classical
MUSI 2 (3 Units)
Survey of classical music from the medieval period through modern
times. Medieval, baroque, classical, romantic, impressionistic,
expressionistic, and contemporary music. Examination of the historical
and sociological influences of the music.
Music Appreciation – American Music
MUSI 3 (3 Units)
Survey of American music from the American Revolution to the present.
Presentation and analysis of traditional, folk, jazz, rock and commercial
popular music. Examination of the historical and sociological influences
on the music.
Theatre Appreciation
TART 3 (3 Units)
Study of the art, craft, and business of the theater. Emphasis on
the audience’s appreciation of the work of the playwright,
director, actor, designer, producer, and critic.
ACTING
Beginning Acting
TART 1 (3 Units)
Introduction to the basic techniques of acting, theory, terminology,
and movement.
Intermediate Acting
TART 6 (3 Units)
Further studies in acting, stressing the importance of character
analysis and development. Emphasis on extensive scene and monologue
study.
Oral Interpretation
TART 2 (3 Units)
The study of both prose and poetry and how best to interpret a selection
for the benefit of an audience.
TECHNICAL THEATRE
Introduction to Theatrical Design
TART 10 (3 Units)
An introductory course in the theory and practice of scenic, lighting,
and sound design for theatrical productions. The lab explores the
application of production practices of stagecraft, construction,
painting, and finishing of the sets for an actual live production
on campus.
VOICE

Study and performance of choral music from early classics to contemporary
works.
The Broadway Voice
TART 4 (2 Units)
Establishing basic vocal technique, including posture, vocal exercises,
and breathing. Application of technique through the study of different
genres of music using musical theatre literature.

reading, keyboard harmony, transposition, and improvisation.
PRODUCTION
Modern Theatre Production
TART 5 (1-4 Units)
Participation in a major theatrical production either in the acting
or technical aspects of preparation and presentation of a selected show.
Calico Theatre Workshop
TART 8 (1 Unit)
Collaboration in the analysis, preparation, and production of short
theatrical works through participation as directors, actors, and/or
technicians. The process culminates in public performances at Calico
Ghost Town.
Children’s Theatre
TART 11 (3 Units)
Exploration of children’s literature
in performance through dramatic presentations for an audience of
young people. No prior theatrical experience is required. Recommended
for theatre, education, and early childhood education majors. Public
performances and field trips are required.
Classical Theatre Production
TART 12 (1-4)
Applied study and practice of script analysis, acting techniques, technical theatre, and other performance skills through preparation and performance of a classical theatre production.
Musical Theatre Production
TART 13 (1-4 Units)
Applied study and practice of script analysis, acting, singing, dancing, technical theatre, and other performance skills through preparation and performance of a musical theatre production.
MISCELLANEOUS
Health and Body Image
TART 7 (3 Units)
An introduction to cultural beauty standards and how it affects
our physical, mental and emotional health. Emphasis on the history
of physical ideals, eating disorders, and media influence, including
activities to enhance a healthy body image.
Occupational Work Experience in
Theatre
TART 82 (1-8 Units)
Supervised employment of students in order to assist them in acquiring
desirable work habits and attitudes in real jobs.
