Petitioning for Graduation
The graduation petition deadline for students to graduate in May 2017 has been extended to Friday, April 7, 2017. Please see a counselor if you need assistance with your petition. You can call 760-252-2411 to schedule an appointment with your counselor or email BCounselor@barstow.edu
Students may petition after this deadline (up until May 17th) and still participate in the graduation ceremony, but their name will not be in the program.Degrees and certificates are granted three times a year – at the end of the fall, spring and summer terms. Students who anticipate completing their last remaining requirements during the academic year must submit their petition for graduation to Admissions and Records early in the semester in which the requirements will be completed. Students must be enrolled in all required classes to petition for graduation. The deadline for petitioning for graduation is posted in the Schedule of Classes and Catalog.

Graduation with Honors
The GPA used to determine the student’s honors status for commencement shall be based on the student’s cumulative GPA at the end of the semester preceding graduation for spring graduates and the end of the semester of graduation for summer and fall graduates.
Honors cords will be distributed at Commencement practice. If you are unable to attend practice, please arrive early the night of Commencement to review information and receive your cords.

All graduates must report to the Student services Building (S Building)
by 1:30 p.m. to complete name cards, receive final instructions, and line up
for the processional. As you walk toward the stage, you will hand a card to
the reader and your name will be announced. You will then be presented with
a diploma cover by the College President.

Commencement Student Speaker
A student speaker is selected to address the graduating class at commencement. Those who wish to be considered for the role should review and complete the Student Speaker Application Packet. The form for the student speaker may be downloaded by choosing the link below:
Criteria for Eligibility
The Commencement Committee reviews applications on the merit of their leadership and involvement at Barstow Community College, and the quality and relevance of their proposed commencement speech. Finalist will interview with and deliver their commencement speech to the committee. The committee’s recommendation is submitted to the President/Superintendent for final approval.
