Walk in Tutoring Center

The tutoring center is located in the Computer Commons area of the Learning Resource Center (LRC). Tutors assigned to the tutoring lab are qualified to tutor a wide range of subjects.   However, because math is most requested by students, most of the tutors assigned to the lab are qualified to assist students in math through Math 3, College Algebra.  Other areas of math are also available.

Computer Lab

New computers are in the computer commons area of the tutorial lab for the student's use in completing course assignments taken on campus or on line.

One-on-one tutoring

Individual appointments are available for students unable to work successfully in a lab or group setting. Recommendation for one-on-one tutoring may come from a counselor, the instructor, and/or a lab tutor. All tutoring takes place on campus. The preferred area is within the Library or Tutoring Center.

Group Study

Group studies are provided  to support classroom learning. Whenever possible, a qualified tutor is also assigned to the group.

Study Hall

Not all students need a tutor, but all students need a quiet place to study. The Tutoring Center/library provides that environment. Should the need occur, Tutors are available at no charge.

On-line tutoring

Students taking traditional or on line courses may not be able to come to the Tutoring Center.  For that reason, on-line  tutoring is available.  Students using the on-line service must be enrolled in one or more courses at Barstow College and be enrolled in Education 150-The service is free! Tutor Training

To apply for a tutoring position, a student must have completed the course to be tutored with a "B" or higher and maintain a 2.5 GPA. Once approved by the Vice President of Student Services, the student will must complete an eight-module training program.If interested contact the Tutorial Services Specialist at bctutorial@bcconline.com or call 252-2411 Ext 7261.

Tutoring for BUSD (grades 6 through 12)

As an outreach to the community of Barstow, we offer tutoring services to the Barstow Unified School District students at no charge. District students from 6^th grade through 12^th grade are invited and encouraged to take advantage of our walk-in math lab 3:00 and 5:00 p.m, Monday through Thursday.
