Part-Time Faculty Openings

GENERAL OPENINGS

ASSIGNMENT

Applications for Part-Time Instructors are always being accepted for assignments at the Barstow campus as well as teaching on-line and at the off-campus site located at Fort Irwin. Assignments are at the discretion of the District. 

METHOD OF INSTRUCTION:

1. Standard semester schedule
2. Traditional lecture courses on non-traditional short-term schedule
3. On-line (web-based) courses emanating from your own home.
4. Correspondence course instruction.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : ACADEMIC COURSES - Possession of a Master’s degree from an accredited institution in the appropriate discipline, or the equivalent.

VOCATIONAL COURSES: Possession of a Bachelor's degree and 2 years experience in the field OR an Associate's degree and 6 years experience in the field.

EQUIVALENCY: If you possess a Bachelor's degree and have experience in the field, you may apply for Equivalency by requesting an Equivalency Form from the Human Resources Office. The Academic Senate at Barstow College will determine Requests of Equivalency in accordance with the minimum qualifications set forth by the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office.

KNOWLEDGE OF

Demonstrated proficiency in teaching at the community college level.
Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse, academic, socio-economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

The hourly rate for part-time faculty is $40, $42 and $44. Placement on the salary schedule is commensurate with academic preparation and experience at the community college level.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Classroom conditions; standing for long periods of time, reaching overhead and above the waist to write on blackboards, speaking and hearing to lecture and communicate with students, seeing to observe students at work.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

Part-time instructors are interviewed and hired by either the Vice President of Liberal Arts & Sciences or the Vice President of Academic Affairs

All persons applying for a part-time teaching position must submit the following documents:

1. a completed District application form;
2. resume or vita;
3. copies of transcripts verifying degrees listed on District application (official transcripts are required upon offer of employment).

   Any other documentation considered pertinent to the application should also be included.
