Welcome!
As a supplement to textbooks, lectures, and film documentaries, the medium of photography enhances historical inquiry in that it provides not only direct imagery of events and personages, but captures both their quintessence and vulnerability. Furthermore, in keeping with the historical professions’ quest for objectivity, photography commits the viewer to the reality of the past and lends credence to factual data otherwise subject to falsification.
This collection of photographs (some, in fact, are miniature versions of paintings) highlights places, events, and individuals noteworthy to the study of both Latin American and United States history. Each print belongs to the collection of Ramon Vasconcellos; I welcome additional pictures from both adjunct history faculty and Barstow College. In time, and with continued trips throughout the United States and abroad, it is hoped I may further enrich this collection.
For now, enjoy what promises to be a continuous “work in progress.”
Ramon Vasconcellos MA, MBA
