Barstow College Seal

Mr. GarvinMr. Timothy E. Garvin, Director of Bands
Barstow Community College, Barstow, Ca.

I was a student for 2 years at Riverside Community College before transferring to California State University, San Bernardino. I reflect back on my musical training and experiences at RCC with gratitude and appreciation. I learned much about music education, performance preparation, and music literature while attending a community college. I support the California Community Colleges and highly recommend them to any student who desires the opportunity to learn and build upon their passion for music.

Barstow College Concert Band (Music 6 A B C)

In the spring of 1987, I began teaching the Barstow College Concert Band as a substitute director for Dr. Bill Graham. After a very successful semester, I was hired as the band director at BCC with Dr. Graham’s recommendation. Dr. Graham’s health made it impossible for him to continue. Since that time, the Barstow College Concert Band has grown to an ensemble of over 50 musicians and has become a top quality performance ensemble. I invite anyone who loves to play their instrument to join us. No audition required.
Barstow College Jazz Ambassadors (Music 7)

In the fall of 1990, the Barstow College music department expanded to offer a jazz reading class, which involved sight-reading and studying the various styles in the world of jazz education. With a group starting with 9 players, the ensemble has grown to a 25 member  “Big Band” which performs regularly throughout the high desert. Reflecting back on some of the highlights, the Jazz Ambassadors have performed at Bally’s Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, Pacific Coast Jazz Festival, Citrus College Jazz Festival, and the River Palms Hotel in Laughlin, NV. The Jazz Ambassadors have become a fine ensemble and a great representative of Barstow Community College. I invite anyone who plays an instrument and loves jazz to join us. No audition required.
Special Invitation to All Musicians

If you would like to play your instrument again, but perhaps you’re thinking it’s been too long since you’ve played. No matter, there is no audition required to join either the BCC Concert Band or Jazz Ambassadors. All you need is the desire to play music and have fun doing it. I have always commented that the bands at Barstow College are fun because the members seem very happy during rehearsals and performances. Based on the fact that most bands are generally very stressful with many of the members experiencing anxiety, please come out and try us out. You will have fun..

You will soon realize that making music is fun, enjoyable, and relaxing. More important, we will achieve the highest quality musical performance together. Please contact me, Mr. Timothy Garvin, at any of the listed contact points. Thanks again for your interest in BCC Instrumental Music.
